This traditional stone cottage, on Great Bernera, Isle of Lewis, has just been extensively renovated and upgraded and just like Valasay, our other property, it has been awarded 4 star grading by VisitScotland. It is a great location for walking, being on the coastal walking route to the beautiful Bosta beach where you’ll find an Iron Age house. The old byre, by the house, offers storage facilities for kayaks, and the cottages location by the sea means that kayaks can be launched from the 12 acre croft to explore the area around Loch Roag. Inside the holiday cottage, the cosy lounge has a lovely cottagey feel enhanced by high ceilings, deep window ledges and a feature alcove where you’ll find lots of local interest books and maps. Resting on a slate hearth is a multi-fuel stove since no cottage is complete without dancing flames! No expense has been spared to provide top quality furniture including Jane Churchill and Laura Ashley fabrics and solid oak furniture throughout.
The kitchen is a lovely bright room which is bathed in sunlight all afternoon and evening thanks to 3 windows on 2 walls. We have maintained the cottage feel by fitting cream shaker style kitchen units under an oak effect worktop. Leading from the kitchen is a porch where outdoor clothes can be stored.
2 sunny bedrooms ensure that you are well rested to make the most of your holiday. The master bedroom has a kingsize bed, built in wardrobe and ensuite shower room whilst the twin room has versatile zip and link beds which convert from 2 singles to a large king size bed.
The large family sized bathroom has a free-standing shower cubicle, with powerful thermostatic shower as well as a bath, washhand basin and toilet. You’ll find an electric shaver point here too.
For those who want to keep in touch with friends and family, we provide WiFi free of charge and our collection of books, maps and DVDs ensure that you will make the most of your time here. This property has 1 King size bedroom, and 1 Twin bedroom with beds which convert from singles to superking size.

Policies
Daily Rate: £80 – £160 per night
Weekly Rate: £400 – £865 per week

Cancellation Policy
If you require to cancel a reservation we must be notified by telephone immediately and cancellation must be confirmed in writing within 5 calendar days.
We will make every effort to re-let the property. You will be reimbursed 70% of the total rental cost if we re-let the property to another party. If we are unable to re-let, cancellation costs will be as follows:
More than 8 weeks before booking commences your deposit will be forfeited
Fewer than 8 weeks you will be liable to pay the full rental.
Adverse travel conditions
In the event of ferry/plane disruptions due to bad weather conditions or any form of industrial action we cannot be held responsible for non-arrival of guests and no refunds will be given. We therefore recommend that you have travel insurance to cover your holiday with us.
Deposit Policy
A deposit of 30% of the total rental cost is payable by Cheque, Bank Transfer or Paypal.
The balance of payment is due to be paid eight weeks prior to arrival date. Bookings will be held for five calendar days pending receipt of your deposit. Failing which, after five days the provisional booking will be cancelled. On receipt of your deposit the booking will be confirmed by email or in writing and your reservation status will be changed to ‘Confirmed’.
Guest Reviews
This is a well-equipped, comfortable cottage which has been modernised very well. There were four of us in our party, two adults and two children, and there was plenty of room for all of us. The location is excellent – out of the way and quiet but not too remote and the views from the cottage were amazing. There are some lovely beaches near by, which our children described as their holiday highlight. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. They did say that otters can be seen from the cottage at times but despite frequent otter-watches we were not lucky!

I originally called Anne with an enquiry about her other property and when we discovered that it didn’t quite meet our needs (only because we needed a walk in shower) Anne told me about the new property not yet completed. She sent me some pictures and I just fell in love with the place. When we arrived there was no dissapointment. The renovation has been made with so much care and attention to detail you just want to move in and stay! The kitchen is extremely well equipped, we made a game out of trying to find something tath had not been thought of and lost! I was travelling with my sister-in-law and we appreciateld the luxury of each having our own room and bathroom, but this property would handle a group of four very comfortably.. The location is perfect for a quiet, relaxing holiday, but there is plenty to see and do on Lewis/Harris so no fear of being bored.
Anne and her family live a few hundred meters away and are ther if you need them but not at all intrusive.
The fresh flowers and cake on our arrival day were a lovely gesture.All in all I would recommend this property wholeheartedly, but I’d rather go back myself!
